The Journey: From Survival to Success
How failure, persistence, and 100+ experiments led to breakthrough innovation
The Beginning: A Dream Under Pressure
I sold my apartment, burned through my savings, and almost burned out myself - all just to keep my dream alive. Five years ago I started ForestVPN. It was not just another VPN, we were building a protocol that is faster, more power efficient, and works in places where others don't. I truly believed in it. But belief doesn't pay salaries, doesn't bring growth and it definitely doesn't convince investors.
The Harsh Reality: Chasing Investment
So I went pitching. In UAE I learned a hard truth: there are no real startup funds. There are offices, events, everyone talks about startups, but when it comes to writing a check it's just illusion. In USA it was different but not easier. They told me: 'We love your product. But move here, register a company here, live here, pay taxes here. Then maybe we'll invest.' At the end, after months of pitching, I had zero money raised. Just a product and conviction.
The Pivot: Birth of ForestSEO
So I decided to build another company. ForestSEO. The idea was simple but crazy. Could we build AI powered SEO platform that actually works, that brings traffic and clients, not just pretty graphs. I put my own money, sold my apartment. That was one of the hardest things I did in life.
The Struggle: 100+ Failed Experiments
And then 3 years of experiments. We launched more than 100 domains. And most of them failed. Some never indexed. Some were hit by penalties. Some started good and then died. I can't count how many times I felt like everything was wasted. Sleepless nights staring at analytics, watching another domain flatline. Asking myself if I am just stupid for continuing. But we didn't stop. We kept testing, breaking, starting again. Over and over.
The Breakthrough: Cracking the Code
Finally after almost 3 years we figured it out. What Google really likes. How to make content that not only ranks but stays. Later we found out also how Perplexity takes and loves this kind of content too. That was the turning point. We took the system from ForestSEO and applied it to ForestVPN. And growth went up by more than 2000%. Numbers we couldn't even imagine in the early days.
The Success: From Survival to Thriving
It didn't just work for VPN, it worked for other clients too. ForestSEO went from survival to the engine that supercharged ForestVPN. Now we are 12 people. We don't run after investors anymore. We choose who we let in. And we know we are building at least a 1B company. Looking back, it was brutal. I lost an apartment. I lost money. I lost count of nights without sleep. More than 100 projects died. But without those failures there would be no ForestSEO. Without ForestSEO there would be no ForestVPN growth. Without pain I wouldn't be able to write this today.
The Lesson: Rejection as Strength
Sometimes rejection and failure are not the end. They are the thing that makes you strong enough to build something that finally works. And when it works, everything changes.

George Kutsurua established ForestVPN in 2015 and later co-founded ForestSEO. He's passionate about creating tech solutions that people love. His background includes building multiple successful companies in FinTech, AI, e-commerce, and cybersecurity. As a former CTO and Software Engineer at companies like Alibaba/Lazada and IcFlix, George brings extensive engineering expertise to both ForestVPN and ForestSEO. When not revolutionizing internet privacy and content marketing automation, he enjoys tennis, swimming, skiing, and exploring the crossroads of Math, Physics, and Philosophy.
